Inspired by European details, the architecture for The Garden Cottage exemplifies classical simplicity with a timeless feel. The compact and efficient floor plan works with how we live. The lines of relationship between the rooms bring an order and calm to the chaos of life. The office of T. Douglas Enoch, Architect & Associates, with the expertise of lead designer David Anderson, have produced a unique and interesting English arts and crafts cottage. The entry’s loggia porch, fountain and architectural elements of interest welcome guests to this tranquil setting. The foyer has a beautiful stair with windows allowing natural light to brighten the space. Central to the main floor, a library vestibule gives access to the dining, kitchen and living spaces. Large arched openings connect the dining room and living room with windows looking to the rear porch. Tall timbered ceilings throughout the living and dining rooms bring a spacious feel with rustic charm. The rear porch features a vaulted planked ceiling and an outdoor fireplace. It is surrounded by louvered panels and curtains to create a calm spot in the busy day. The varying ceiling heights in the house create interest, bringing spacious atmospheres where needed as well as warmer intimate settings. The use of wall sconces and painting lights highlight special features. The master suite’s vaulted and decked ceiling, along with its windows that bring in a northern light, create a restful haven. The master bath is balanced, organized and spacious. The first floor also has a study that could be used as a bedroom with an adjoining bath, or as a media room for the master suite. The second floor features a media room/bunk room which is perfect for family enjoyment or sleep-overs on the week-end. This floor offers three bedrooms each with its own bath. In addition, there is a vestibule with bookcases and natural light creating the perfect nook for reading and studying. This spacious house exudes plenty of charm and warmth and is a house that will make a wonderful home. |
